Description:
Naked Lunch must have stumbled on a great recipe as this bar just celebrated its 12th year on the NYC bar scene.

The bar aims for a lounge meets classy dive atmosphere as you can grab a seat in the front couches or mingle in the almost always crowded and dark bar area. The bar does have a cover charge, which is always a deterrent in my book, but the $7 cover doesn’t seem to keep many people away. The Naked Lunch faithful come to hear the DJ who consistently spins great dance songs all night long. You will often hear excited squeals from the swaying drunk crowd as 80s favorites are intermingled with Justin Timberlake or Beyonce songs. People dance throughout the space making it a challenge to move from back to front with ease. The bar’s high-energy feel is great for a party, but not so much for a date. The roped off area in front with several bouncers may throw off people looking for a low-key good time. The bouncers can be a bit intense as they actually asked my friend who approached by herself how many people were in her party. My friend looked around and answered one, as there wasn’t another sole on the street. She passed the test a moment later and gained entrance. Note that if you come after midnight you should be prepared to wait behind the ropes outside for at least a few minutes as it does get really packed.

A bar like Naked Lunch that stands the test of time in this city is worth a visit, a beer and definitely a dance or two.
