Xilonen brings vibrant Mexican cuisine to Greenpoint
January 4, 2021, 12:26.11 am ET
The team behind Oxomoco has opened Xilonen, a plant forward restaurant, on a sunny corner in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Named after the Aztec goddess of corn, Xilonen is currently open Tuesday through Sunday from 9am to 3pm with a limited menu.
Diners have access to a heated space out front for the winter due to the pandemi and sidewalk dining when the weather permits. What is on the menu is worth seeking out. Start with Guacamole ($16) with salsa macha verde, a chili sauce amde with Arbol peppers. The dish is topped with wild greens and assorted seeds. It's delicious.
Also on the menu is a Carrot Tostada ($14) topped with charred baby carrots drizzled with spiced maple over navy beans on a tortilla. It was the favorite of the table.
Other offerings include a Green Chorizo Quesadilla ($17) with hoja santa, black bean salsa and avocado, (top) and a Purple Potato Taco ($9) with grilled cheese, tomatilla salsa and honey nut queso (below). Breakfast items include a Scrambled Egg Tostada ($13) and Masa Pancake ($15) with deep mountain maple syrup and salted butter. Churros with Oaxacan chocolate are available for dessert. An expanded menu and hours to follow.
