Vinegar Hill House returns reinvigorated
June 5, 2021, 7:04.24 am ET
Vinegar Hill House has reemerged from the pandemic better than ever. That laid back vibe, wonderful food and a friendly staff are keys to its success. These days the restaurant has both inside and outside diner on a street with wood-framed houses and shops of old New York that make up the Vinegar Hill neighborhood on the outskirts of DUMBO.
Here you can opt for a full meal or, as we did, some cocktails and some light bites. The warmer weather is perfect for some refreshing cocktails. Some Light You Can Hold is one of them, a mix of tequila, aperol, maraschino & lime, and Cosmic Reflection made with Japanese melon liqueur, lime and soda. Wine, beer, cider and sake are also offered, along with several non-alcoholic drinks.
To go along with its cocktails, Vinegar Hill House offers several types of cheeses and charcuterie. All are outstanding. There’s Farmstead Cheese, which offers a selection of both hard and soft cheeses, served with grapefruit marmalade and oat crackers. Basque-style salami arrives with pickled ramps and thick slices of toast drizzled with a bit of olive oil.
Other offerings include Charred Octopus with cauliflower soubise and vadouvan, and Chicken Liver Mousse with vinegar onions and pistachios. Pastas bring Rigatoni with lamb ragù and pecorino, and Reginetti, a curly pasta with shiitake mushrooms, green garlic and stracciatella.

Rounding out the menu, larger plates of Cast Iron Chicken, Red Wattle Pork Chop with cheddar jalapeno grits and Paneed Tilefish with sauce gribiche and pea leaves. For dessert, there’s Guinness Chocolate Cake and Bay Leaf Panna Cotta with rhubarb. Brunch is also served. Reservations are strongly suggested, although walk-ins are welcome.
Vinegar Hill House is located at 72 Hudson Avenue,, Brooklyn, NY
