THREE PLACES TO TRY IF YOU CAN SNAG A TABLE – VESELKA, PAN YA AND SWING 46
August 1, 2021, 12:19.21 pm ET
VESELKA
Veselka in the East Village was one of the first restaurants to emerge from the pandemic with takeout. Even back then there was a line outside. Now, the restaurant is fully open with outdoor seating in the front and sides and people are still waiting to get in. Must be that homemade Ukrainian borscht, crispy chicken schnitzel, to-die-for Pierogis (several varieties), blintzes and a lot more. Veselka also recently reopened its stand at The Market Line. 144 Second Ave, New York, NY (212) 228-9682
PAN YA
Pan Ya is a Euro-Japanese bakery on Stuyvesant Street that always seems to draw a nice laid back crowd for its croissants and danishes, and sweet bread pastries in flavors like chocolate chip melon, sweet potato and ogura (bean paste) pan. There’s also green tea tiramisu. Savory items include curry pan and spicy tuna, katsu sandwiches, shrimp tempura udon and donburi rice bowls. There is also Panya’s “Japanese Breakfast.” 8 Stuyvesant St, New York, NY (212) 777-1930

SWING 46
Live Jazz is the draw at Swing 46 located on Manhattan’s Restaurant Row. We spotted live performers entertaining guests outside. The menu includes things like Caesar salad, crab cakes, a ribeye and seafood risotto. The signature drink is the Swing 46 with Svedka vodka, pureed raspberries, champagne float with a Cadbury’s Chocolate rim.
