Springsteen on Broadway: With the opening of “Springsteen on Broadway” on June 26, the Great White Way is officially back is business! And while the Boss’ intimate concert has already been seen by thousands of theatergoers in its original run – and millions more via Netflix – this limited run at the St. James Theater (through September 4) is another sell-out. However, 32 tickets will be sold for each performance through a digital lottery for $75 each (limit 2 tickets per winner). Visit http://www.luckyseat.com for more information.
Ice Factory Festival: One of the NYC’s most innovative theater festivals, the Ice Factory Festival returns for seven weeks of live performances on June 30 at the New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street). Things kick off with “Endless Loop of Gratitude,” a solo, interactive sound installation that opens one hour prior to the start of each Ice Factory performance in which participants are invited to record their own reflections on gratitude or read the words of another person who is not present, and “The Extremely Grey Line,” a site-specific show led designed around the streets of New York -- which are also the graveyards of New York. Audience members can choose whether to go on bicycle, on foot, or by sitting inside the “Underneath.” Visit http://NewOhioTheatre.org for more information.
Birdland: After a 15-month hiatus, the upstairs room at this legendary jazz club and cabaret reopens on July 1, with many tickets as low as 99 cents. The line-up of Birdland favorites who will entertain you in the coming weeks include the Emmet Cohen Trio, Arturo O’Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble, Jim Caruso’s Cast Party, The Lineup with Susie Mosher, Matt Munisteri and David Ostwald’s Louis Armstrong Eternity Band. Endure Run Woman Show: Writer Melanie Jones has created a one-woman show and outdoor immersive theatrical experience that celebrates resilience through the stories of real-life athletes. Equipped with a sanitized and synchronized audio player, audiences will follow one performer on a winding and circular 5K / 3.1-mile journey through Central Park. As park-goers listen to the inner monologue of the athlete, they’ll not only be greeted by the natural beauty of their surroundings, but also the vulnerable and transformative thoughts of the runner. (Audiences can walk, not run!). Performances take place July 3 through August 8. Visit https://runwomanshow.com for more information.
