Skorpios brings the flavors of Greece to Midtown
May 26, 2021, 11:41.42 pm ET
Escape to the Greek islands without leaving the city. Skorpios in Midtown boasts four indoor waterfalls cascading down marble pillars, an expansive rock wall and a 32-foot sand art wall providing the feel of a true island escape.
Chef/Owner loannis "Yiannis” Chatiris should know. He was born in Greece’s South Agean Sea where he learned his craft at a young age and opened his first restaurant, called Rodos, at the age of 22. In 2010 he made New York City his home and opened several restaurants, including Ethos Gallery 51, Pathos Café, Mykonos Blue and as a co-owner of Kyma. His latest endeavor is Skorpios.
Here the flavors of Greece abound. Appetizers include traditional Greek spreads, such as tarama, tzatziki, and hummus served with crudité. Hot appetizers feature Greek staples like Spanakopita, Aegean Calamari and Ouzo Flamed Haloumi Cheese with a lemon sauce. Larger plates include Squid Ink Pasta and prime cuts of meat like their Tomahawk Steak. From the raw bar comes the Royal Tower with clams, shrimp, oysters, a whole lobster and King Crab, or try some Razor Clam Ceviche. The menu also features freshly caught whole fish flown in daily from Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, among others and sold by the pound at market price. The fish is charcoal grilled simply with olive oil, lemon and sea salt. Even the cocktails have a Greek twist as well as an extensive wine list by the glass and bottle.
Aviva Collective CEO and designer Dara Young is the creative force behind Skorpios’ design. The spacious dining room is lined with white leather circular banquettes throughout, white-washed tables and an expansive bar with natural light shining in. Sidewalk seating is also available.
Skorpios is located at 5 East 54th Street, New York, NY (212)777-5454
