Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage has announced that multi-award-winning entertainer and social activist Common will perform a benefit show in Central Park on Sunday, August 22 with support from Grammy Award-nominated rapper, Rapsody.
Common co-starred in the Oscar-nominated film, “Selma,” a film centered around the civil rights marches that changed America and received an Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy Award for the song “Glory,” co-written by John Legend, which was featured in the film. His numerous other acting work includes roles in “The Hate U Give,” “Suicide Squad,” “New Year's Eve” and “John Wick: Chapter 2.”
An extremely popular recording artist, Common also received Grammy Awards for the songs “Love of My Life” and “Southside.” His best-of album, “Thisisme Then: The Best of Common,” was released in late 2007.
After the success and impact of both his “Imagine Justice” concert in 2017 and his “Hope & Redemption Tour” to eight different prisons, Common established and launched Imagine Justice as a new nonprofit, which is dedicated to leveraging the power of art to advocate for communities around the country, to fight for justice and equality, and to stand united against injustice wherever it appears.
SummerStage asks anyone who is not vaccinated to please wear a mask and try to remain six feet apart and strongly recommends vaccinated guests also wear masks and practice social distancing, due to the recent rise in cases in NYC.
Tickets are currently available for $35 at cityparksfoundation.org/events/common. On the day of the concert, tickets will be $45.
