For many people, few thrills compare to seeing one of your favorite television stars live and in person. In January, you might very well get your wish!

A stalwart of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” Cecily Strong is no stranger to playing multiple characters. Now, she’s taking on about a dozen of them in one evening in a rare revival of the Tony-winning play “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe,” now in previews at The Shed at Hudson Yards (www.shed.org)

To some of us Phylicia Rashad will always be the no-nonsense Dr. Clair Huxtable of “The Cosby Show.” But Rashad is also a brilliant, Tony-winning stage actress, so it’s a thrill to have her back on the boards in Dominique Morriseau’s superb play “Skeleton Crew,” about a determined group of workers in an embattled Detroit factory, now at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (www.mtc.org)

As a member of the legendary band, The Roots, Tariq Trotter comes into our living rooms constantly on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” In January, he co-stars alongside Emmy Award nominee Brandon Victor Dixon (“Jesus Christ Superstar”) in the New Group’s highly awaited Off-Broadway musical “Black No More” – for which he also wrote the music! The production begins January 11 at the Pershing Square Signature Theater Center (www.newgroup.org)

A three-time Obie Award winner, Elizabeth Marvel has also lived up to her last name in such popular series as “Manifest” and “Homeland.” Starting in January 11, she’s taking on one of the theatre world’s most demanding roles, Mary Tyrone in Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey into Night,” in an unusual two-hour version at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theater opposite real-life husband Bill Camp (“The Queen’s Gambit”). Another SNL favorite, the hilarious Tracy Morgan – who also starred on “30 Rock” and “The Last OG” – brings his latest stand-up comedy act “Working It Out” to the ever-popular Caroline’s on Broadway, January 13-15. (www.carolines.com)

As media magnate Logan Ray on HBO’s must-watch drama “Succession,” Brian Cox has further cemented his reputation as one of the world’s greatest actors. He’s a darn good speaker too, as audiences at the 92nd Street Y will discover on January 21 as he discusses his upcoming memoir “Putting the Rabbit in the Hat.” (www.92Y.org)
