Chef George Mendes opens Veranda in SoHo

Chef George Mendes is partnering to open Veranda at the Modernhaus SoHo Hotel. The restaurant is a collaboration between Mendez, restaurateur David Rabin, and catering and events group Abigail Kirsch. Mendes is known for his elevated Portuguese cuisine at Aldea, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Flatiron and accolades at his Portuguesee spot Lupulo in 2015. In this latest endeavor Mendes will serve as Executive Chef and partner. Rabin, a veteran of the hospitality industry for 25 years, is also a partner. He's recognized for his involvment in places like American Bar, The Lambs Club, Sona and Veranda, as well as rooftop lounges JIMMY and The Skylark. Mixologist Johnny Swet (Balthazar, Pastis, Freemans) is overseeing the beverage program. Visitors to Veranda will also discover several unique dining experience including a greenhouse-like dining room with retractable roof allowing for meals under the stars. The Back Bar, meanwhile, is located in an outdoor space offering cocktails and bites from Chef Mendes at several outdoor terraces.
