Michelin-starred chef Jonathan Benno is bringing a taste of Paris to the Evelyn Hotel with bistro-style French dining at Bar Benno. The space is more casual than Benno, a fine dining restaurant also at the hotel, which is set to reopen in September. Bar Benno's aim is to elevate traditional dishes with a focus on quality, seasonality, and accessibility that diners can enjoy several times a week.
The meal begins with a selection of fruits de mer, whether a raw bar plateau or chef Benno’s take on clams casino. Hors d'œuvres include a terrine made with Berkshire pork and foie gras and escargot with a garlic custard and parsley butter. The main courses on the menu will be split into two categories: plats principaux and frites comprises, aka French fries included. For dessert, Pastry Chef Kara Blitz is preparing dishes like marquise au chocolat and strawberry sorbet with crêpes dentelles.
“It's not enough for us to just reopen Benno, I want to expand it further,” said chef Benno. “When we began planning Bar Benno I really wanted to focus on my foundation in French food and technique, the kinds of dishes I remember travelling and cooking in France.”
In addition to the French fare, numerous bistro-inspired touches are intended to channel a casual, welcoming vibe. A lively horseshoe shaped bar will host L'Apéritif, a nightly happy hour where guests will be able to pair drinks with small plates like salmon rillettes and fried pig’s trotter.
Bar Benno is located at 7 East 27th St New York, NY
