Around Town - Pink Sushi, A rooftop returns, and LIC gets a new mega-market
March 18, 2021, 6:36.39 pm ET
Spring is here and in honor of the cherry blossom season, MakiMaki (360 Lexington Ave) is offering Sakura Denbu, traditional Japanese hand rolls and cut rolls made with pink rice and finely ground cooked fish seasoned with sake, sugar and salt.
MakiMaki founder Kevin Takarada says Sakura Denbu dates back centuries and is intended to "cheer up" diners after a long winter. We could all use a bit of that!
Also, keep an eye on the Brooklyn Botanical Garden's "Cherrywatch" for peak cherry blossom blooms this spring. Donations are always welcome for the upkeep of the gardens and to keep staff safe.
Esther Choi's mökbar now delivers to your door. With locations in Chelsea and Brooklyn, diners can order things like Korean "Army" Stew and signature hot and spicey rice cakes that can be made at home. mökbar is also known for its Korean fried chicken, dumplings and more.

The Rooftop at Le Bain returns to The Standard on Friday, March 19th. It is open Fri-Sun from 4pm to 9pm for sunsets, food and cocktails. Parties are temporarily paused due to the pandemic.

The counter at Yakitori Torien has reopened and is now accepting reservations. Guests will be treated to a chef's selection of skewers, or omakase, ranging from familiar cuts like Chicken Kashiwa Thigh and Tabaski Wings to Tsukune Meatballs (chicken) and Nami Chicken Neck Skin. Each is cooked over kishu binchotan, a slow-burning white charcoal.
Tasca is a destination spot for paella, fideuá for two, churrasco and more in a beautifully-designed space on the Upper West Side. Restaurateurs Jay and Norisa Espinal opened the multi-level spot last November inspired by the cuisines of their childhoods.

And City Acres Market is branching out, opening its third location in Long Island City. The 13,000 square foot market at The JACX (29-18 Queens Plaza South) features an in-house cheesemonger, premium charcuterie and gourmet deli counter. The Long Island City location is the third location for City Acres Market, joining Williamsburg as well as FiDi. City Acres Market LIC hosts Korean restaurant Madang, which serves jaeyook hokum and bulgogi. There are also freshly made juices from Dragonfly.
