With indoor dining set to resume at 50 percent capacity next week in New York City, some restaurants that invested heavily on outdoor dining stand to benefit the most. Some could even exceed 100 percent when you add in the extra seating. The Smith (MoMad), L'Amico (Garment District), 232 Bleecker (West Village) and The Mermaid Inn (Upper West Side) are counted among them.

Some restaurants that held off at 25% and 35% appear ready to test the waters at 50 percent. They include and Oceana (March 15), Le Bernadin (March 17), and Balthazar (March 24).

You’ll have to wait a bit longer to sit inside Eataly's La Piazza del Mercato, a popular spot to nosh on cheeses and charcuerie with a glass of wine. A worker telling us if restrictions continue to ease up the counters could soon be back. In the meantime, some cafe seating have been set up outside, if you want to by in and take it to go.

Another ill effect of the pandemic you might not have noticed is the price of pizza. It’s rare to find a $2.50 slice these days (aside from $1 joints). At Joe’s Pizza on Carmine near Bleecker this square now commands $5. We must say it was very large and tasted great!

A few steps away on 6th Ave and West 4th St, it's sad to report that Xi’am Famous Foods, known for its fiery noodles, has shuttered its Greenwich Village location. A note in the widow says the closure is "permanent."

One bright spot - the IFC Center has reopened as movie theaters come back online. My Salinger Year and Test Pattern are among the initial showings.
