Tony and Emmy Award winner LaChanze (“The Color Purple”) will star in the Broadway premiere of “Trouble in Mind” by Alice Childress, directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, which will begin preview performances at the Roundabout’s American Airlines Theatre (227 West. 42nd Street). The long-awaited show will begin performances on Friday, October 29 and open officially on Thursday, November 18. For tickets and information, visit www.roundabouttheatre.org
Second Stage’s production of Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage’s new play “Clyde’s” will feature three-time Emmy Award-winner Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the New Black”) and two-time Emmy Award-winner Ron Cephas Jones (“This Is Us”), alongside rising stars Reza Salazar and Kara Young. Directed by Kate Whoriskey, the drama will begin previews on Wednesday, November 3 and officially open on Monday, November 22 at The Hayes Theater (240 West 44th street). Olivier Award winner Sharon D. Clarke will re-create her explosive performance as the title character in the Roundabout Theater’s production of the acclaimed Tony Kushner-Jeanine Tesori musical “Caroline or Change,” which begins a limited engagement on October 8 at Studio 54. The show’s supporting cast includes stage favorites Caissie Levy (“Frozen”), Chip Zien (“Into the Woods”), John Cariani (“Fiddler on the Roof”) and N’Kenge (“Motown the Musical”). Finally, it’s a Broadway homecoming for Obie and New York Drama Critics Circle Award winner Deirdre O’Connell, who will reprise her extraordinary performance in Lucas Hnath’s solo show “Dana H.,” which will come to Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre for a limited run on October 1. In a most unusual fashion, the show tells the harrowing true story of a woman – Hnath’s mother -- held captive in a series of Florida motels for five months. “Dana H.” will play in repertory with the equally acclaimed “Is This A Room,” another award-winning show presented by the Vineyard Theatre during its 2019-2020 season. Written by Tina Satter, directed by Les Waters and starring Emily Davis, “Is This A Room” focuses on the true story of Reality Winner, the 25-year-old former Air Force linguist who was surprised at her home by the FBI on June 3, 2017. Performances begin September 24. For tickets and information, visit https://thelyceumplays.com
