Description:
The World Trade Center Transportation Hub rises from ground zero like a phoenix. Often referred to as the Oculus, it is made from a series of huge metal arches and glass creating a structure like no other in New York City. It was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and is meant to resemble a bird being released from a child's hand. The structure is stunning inside and out and serves as a hub for PATH service to New Jersey as well as access to the 2,3,A,C,E, N and R trains. The concourse and balconies inside the Oculus serve as home to numerous retail and eating establishments, including Apple and Eataly. An estimated quarter million commuters are expected to use the transit hub daily.
