Type of Place: Farmer's Markets

Description:
Who says bees should have all the fun buzzing about the beautiful summer flowers. Now you can share in the enjoyment.

At the Windfall Farms stand in Union Square $5 will get you enough edible flowers to liven up any salad or add a touch of elegance to your favorite cake. Impatiens, pansies and peas filled one container; bright orange and yellow nasturtiums in another.

I opted for a delicacy I haven't had since I was a child, zucchini flowers which I fried up with a light batter at home. What a treat. Everything is organically grown. The farm says it uses no pesticides, no herbicides, no insecticides and no chemical fertilizers.

Windfall farms also sells a variety of veggies including sprouts and baby greens, cherry tomatoes, watermelon radishes and mini vegetables in all shapes and sizes. The farm is located in Montgomery, New York, but you can find them every Wednesday and Saturday at their stand in the heart of Union Square. One of the many reasons to love New York.   - Jane Palmer
