Description:

For any of you familiar with the TV show "Obscura" you might be surprised to leard that the shop actually exists and is living up to its name in the East Village. You will find Obscura Antiques & Oddities on Avenue A near 13th Street.  The shop is chock full of strange offerings that change hands (and paws) quite  frequently.

During our visit we spotted a two-headed calf, ceremonial skulls, antique dolls and medical devices; even a wayward fox.  There are human bones and animal bones, stuffed birds and an excellent collection of preserved moths.  Can anyone say, "Silence of the Lambs."

And the shop workers, dare I say, are proudly creepy and perfectly happy talking about devices intended to extract items lodged in person's throat with a mini claw, to what appeared to be a baby cobra destined to spend its remaining days on earth pickled in bottle and ready to take home for a few bucks.  But not everything is cheap.  The rarer the item the higher the cost.

Obscura Antiques certainly lives up to its name and makes for a fun adventure while in Alphabetland.
