Description:

I love a store that carries a little bit of everything – and aptly named, unisex Creatures of Comfort does the deal. The first time I visited this store was about a year ago on a trip to LA. Lo and behold, when I found its sister store here in NYC, I howled with excitement.

Magnificently curated, it’s a pleasure to peruse for a couple of hours here, and the inventory is so well organized with a quality that supersedes that which you will find in similar shops in the Big Apple. You may even feel like you are browsing some high-end gallery minus the snooty curators.

Every fashionista these days is looking for the most unique item they can lay their money down on –and CoC is where non-conformists will find their second home.  The list of designers carried here is never-ending including Alexander Yamaguichi, Gemma, Lizzy Disney, Norse Projects, Margaret Howell Lonely, Bless, and about 100 more. This place just roars unique! I’ve never even heard of half of these designers, but once I took a look at their work, I didn’t care. Creatures of Comfort also carries their own line which is just as impressive as the aforementioned mysterious designers.

The boutique also carries accessories, handbags, books and periodicals, housewares and more – making it reminiscent of one of my all-time favorite shops, Anthropologie, but with way more of a cutting edge.

Some of the clothes here are a little too outlandish for me, making me feel like I just stepped off of a catwalk, but enough sifting through the racks enabled me to find some really extraordinary pieces.  My favorite was a boatneck purple, hot pink, black and orange pleated dress. (A lot of their garments are created via a technique called colorblocking which is created by sewing colored panels together for a loud finale.) While I loved the dress, I abhorred the price ($890).

Unfortunately, you won’t find much for less than about $250, but if you’re like me, you know a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do in order to look her best . Accessories (hats, scarves headbands, etc) will run you around the same cost. So if you are looking to spend a bit less (between $15 and $20), head for the periodicals where you can find obscure magazines where you can find ideas for replicating the garb you find in CoC at a lower cost.

Whether you’ve got the cash to spend or just wanna feel rich for a day, enter the inimitable realm of Creatures of Comfort and get a taste of what New York City is all about.
