Cititour Review:

The golden age of the food court continues as places like Le District, Berg'n and Gansevoort Market crop up across the city.  Urbanspace Vanderbilt is the latest entry just steps from Grand Central, and the selection of foods is truly grand.

More than 20 different gourmet vendors under one roof.  Some names are familiar like Roberta's, Red Hook Lobster Pound and Dough.  Others not so much.  Names like Delaney Chicken, which is selling ginormous deep-fried chicken legs; crepes and other sweets at Suzette, Middle Eastern at Mimi's Hummus and seafood at Maiden Lane.

Maiden Lane is an interesting concept.  Almost everything it sells comes from a can which they proudly display on plates.  There are smoked Ekone oytsers, octopus in paprika oil and 14 different types of sardines.  Most are imported from Spain and Portugal and packed with flavor.

Our smoked whitefish salad sandwich arrived topped with pickled onion, cucumber and dill on a fresh baguettee.  It's fabulous and much more than we expected.  Maiden Lane also offers a nice selection of craft beers and wines.

Now, no one really knows how long this whole food court craze is gonna last.  But for now, I for one, am enjoying every bite!
