Options for a dining-out experience in Midtown, on the outer reaches of the West Side, have historically been slim. However, with new high-rise living popping up (The Atelier and Silver Towers), it was only a matter of time before a restaurant opened up in the neighborhood. Beneath River Place you will find The Linc, a classic American, yet eclectic spot that reflects the blend of the many different cultures that make up New York City. So, it is no surprise to find Mediterranean and Italian dishes on the menu.
The restaurant itself is sleek and intimate. A small bar with a few tables stands on one side of the room, while the other opens up to a small dining area. In the back, candlelit tables afford a more romantic dining experience.
We arrived on a Monday night around 10 pm and found the bar scattered with patrons but the restaurant relatively quiet. Not a lot of pedestrian traffic moves around the West Side highway at that time of night. However, our waiter was very friendly and informative. We cracked open a bottle of wine for the moderate price of $32. Sipping over the menu, I spotted some delicious-sounding dishes.
There are fries with truffle oil, parmesan, and garlic ($5), crispy calamari ($11) and mini Kobe sliders with American cheese ($13). Add any protein you desire if you choose a salad. Options include a chopped Mediterranean with Klamath olives ($9) and a Julius, similar to the Cesar, but with shaved Asiago ($8) that sounds mouth-watering. I indulged in the lobster mac’n cheese for $16. The dish was so creamy and rich with huge chunks of fresh lobster. I had more than enough to take home with me!
If the mac’n cheese isn’t enough to entice you, some other great entrees include fried chicken and red velvet waffles ($18), and rigatoni a la vodka with smoked mozzarella and prosciutto ($16). Several varieties of individual pizzas are available, as well as breakfast all day. Maybe next time I’ll enjoy the brioche French toast with house made caramel sauce and toasted pecans ($11). And don’t pass up on the sides. With options like Brussels sprouts and bacon, mashed potatoes, cole slaw and fries, The Linc is a heavy contender for the ultimate comfort food experience.
There is a menu for brunch, lunch and one just for the kids. So, no matter what time of day or with whom you are dining, The Linc is a terrific option, even if you are just craving lobster mac’n cheese.
