The Lower East Side former digs of Ludlow Manor are now home to the DL, a bar serving great food in a funky, LES atmosphere: decorative wrought-iron gates inspire the wall and ceiling décor, while chandeliers illuminate the bar, and small tea lights adorn low tables in a room covered ceiling to floor in cherry-colored wood. Located on the corner of Delancey and Ludlow, the DL features a tapas menu as well as an extensive list of cocktails. Executive Chef Wesley Wobles offers such cleverly named highlights as ‘Lobster Crack’ (16) -- cracked lobster claws & knuckles steamed in vermouth -- , ‘PB & J’ (13) -- a pork belly & jam slider -- and several varieties of ‘Ludlow Mac,’ (12-16) including lobster, bacon and truffle & mushroom. A few intriguing desserts also grace the menu, including a blueberry and banana pudding tiramisu (10). The former Ludlow Manor was off to a rough start earlier this year, with some trouble with liquor licenses on each floor of its triple-decker venue, but the management has confirmed that everything is well on its way to making the DL the newest hip Lower East Side locale, with a versatile atmosphere and an ambiance that is both comfortable and upscale. - Emily Monaco
