Cititour Review:

The Crooked Knife was one of the first restaurants I dined at in New York City. One block from my old apartment, this Midtown East spot is cozy and homey, the kind of place you want to go for a nice meal and a little comfort with that close-to-home feel.
   
The wait staff are incredibly friendly and the décor is charming; the restaurant has a quaint fireplace and lots of photos and mirrors decorating the room in a country style. I half expected grandma to come out and serve my chicken pot pie ($15).
   
The Crooked Knife’s menu is mostly American and a little Irish, with a hint of Italian. So many hearty meals grace the menu such as the sheperd’s pie ($15), beef stew ($16), and even a wonderful veggie chilli with basmati rice ($14). I had plenty of leftovers of this dish. The fish and chips ($15) offered keeps things Irish while the bbq ribs with cornbread ($19) and the steak frites with NY strip ($29) remind you that we are definitely still in America.
   
For those less in need of lovin’ in the oven, the Crooked Knife does offer some tasty salads such as the goat cheese salad ($13), and pear salad with endive and gorgonzola cheese ($13).
   
The Crooked Knife is open for lunch with a menu that remains relatively similar to dinner, save a few wraps and sandwiches. The tuna cranberry wrap, served with fries ($14) and the turkey club with bacon and avocado mayo, also served with fries ($13), are solid and affordable lunch items.
   
Brunch is another way to enjoy a meal here. They’ve got your classic Irish breakfast with pudding ($16) and your average American brunch items like eggs benedict ($12) with an option of smoke salmon, much to my delight, and French toast ($13). The sandwich and burger lunch items make an appearance of this menu as well.
   
There is a nice cozy bar in the restaurant with your mother’s hatch cabinet in back- full of booze. There is plenty of sparkling, red, and white wine available by the glass or bottle at comfortable prices (average: $9, 30). They carry domestic and imported beer, but you won’t find any specialty drinks with kitschy names at the Crooked Knife.
