The Brooklyn Firefly is a family-friendly spot for drinks, live entertainment and pizza. A small stage in the back, with strings of lights dangling from the ceiling, is where the artists perform. There is ample seating and a large bar up front serving beers from local brewers (We tried the Rockaway ESB which was quite good) as well as mixed drinks. The menu boasts Italian specialties like a giant riceball, call the Big Ragu, stuffed with beef, peas and fresh mozzarella. It's meant to be shared. There are also Mama's Meatballs made with smoked mozzarella topped with a smoky tomato and ricotta sauce. Eight different pizza pies are offered, including a margarita pie and a square pie with Sunday sauce. We tried The Lord of Brooklyn. It had a great smoky crust with fresh mozzarella, smoked ricotta, sweet and spicy Italian sausage. It was quite good. So was the apple pie served in a crispy egg roll wrapper with fresh whipped cream. They also offer a ricotta cheesecake and a pumpkin pecan cobbler. For the kids, try an old fashioned BK Egg Cream. The Brooklyn Firefly has a lot going for it, including a great indoor and outdoor space. - Thomas Rafael
