Cititour Review:

T.A.O.S. stands for The Art of Sandwiches, but this little shop near Grand Central has much more to offer, including a nice assortment of hand-dipped chocolates. In our small sampling we found the passion fruit white chocolate hearts delicious (and a perfect gift for Valentine's Day). There are also dark chocolate pyramids and chocolates flavored with coffee and 30 year old basalmic vinegar. While it may sound strange, the combination actually works. And that seems to be the goal of the store's proprietor, David Gadlin, who prides himself of innovative combinations. Some experiments seem to work, while others may not achieve their ultimate goal. Chocolate covered potato chips (Yes, they are Ruffles.) lose a bit of their crispness when dipped in chocolate, but are still tasty and unique. Sandwiches also take on an adventurous tone. The San Salvador Groundnut is a combination of roasted turkey with lettuce, tomato, onion, garlic and spicy peanut spread. But you'll also find traditional Cuban sandwiches and a classic Reuben. Most sandwiches run $7, while the chocolates sell for around $26 a pound. The shop also offers a wide assortment of teas in the $10-$12 range. T.A.O.S is a bit off the beaten path but well worth seeking out.
