Those who know Yura on Madison have probably seen sister-restaurant Square Meal, just around the corner. The intimate restaurant with just a few tables and bar stools in a bright and homey interior offers a sit-down option for those who have gotten to know the classy catering joint, a favorite with the private school kids for sandwiches and baked goods, expensive as they may be.

Square Meal steps it up a notch from Yura, with an always-changing menu of brunch, lunch and dinner options, ranging from their famous bread pudding French toast to crab cakes with fresh arugula salad or freshly made paninis at midday. Evening options may include roasted duck, fresh fish or scallops. Lunch options generally range from 15 to 20 dollars, while dinner mains may cost up to 30, but the prices match the neighborhood, and if you take the staff's suggestions on what is good and fresh, you will not be disappointed.

Like many restaurants in the neighborhood, Square Meal has a regular following which can be intimidating to newcomers. BYOB is the standard here, and asking for substitutions on the menu is frowned upon and often denied. Parents of young children, beware: like many Upper East Side joints, Square Meal doesn't accommodate children in high chairs or strollers; this is a grown-ups-only kind of place, but one where you're sure to find something that suits your palate.
