Cititour Review:

The tiny spot where Lassi once stood is now Satay Junction.  The restaurant with its white brick walls and dark wood floors is only about 8 feet wide, if that, with eight tables serving about 16 people at any given time.  It's tight.  But it's also quite inviting and so are the prices.  

That really seems to be the trend these days focusing one item whether its meatballs, tacos or  roast beef sandwiches.  Restaurants seem to be focusing more on one item and keeping the prices under ten bucks.  In this case it's satays, like shish kebobs, served on wooden skewers.

Satay Junction is serving up eight types of satay ranging from traditional chicken and beef to lamb and vegetables.  You can mix and match; three for $5 or five for $9. 

The chicken satays are cooked up just right and perfectly carmelized, but my personal favorite is the shrimp.  They're perfectly marinated, plump and juicy.   All are served with a fiercely hot peanut sauce and "acar" relish teeming with fresh chilies.  Go gently with each.

The menu also boasts other Indonesian specialties like Siomay; steamed vegetables and fishballs in a peanut auce ($8), Nasi Goreng; fried rice served with chicken, pork or shrimp ($4-$11), and Mee Bakso; a meatball noodle soup ($4-$7).  Beverages include young coconut juice ($3) and Es Alpukat made with avocado and a splash of chocolate ($4).  For dessert, there's fried bananas with vanilla ice cream and honey ($3) and baked cassava with grated coconut ($3).

Satay Junction may be small, but it's big on flavor.
