Cititour Review:

Primola is the Upper East Side’s real taste of Italia. From the waiters to the owner, every employee is laden with a thick, genuine Italian accent and attitude. The restaurant is usually full of regulars, so I joined a friend who uses Primola as his go-to spot on weeknights. Fortunately, we were seated at a table in the rear which provides a perfect view of all the action.

The room is quite classy with its candlelit tables and well-mannered patrons. The menu is full of delicious, authentic Italian dishes making it difficult to choose. I couldn’t resist the branzino, the fish of the day, served with roasted potatoes and vegetables. It was the most tender of fillets I had ever been tasted, cooked to perfection. My partner couldn’t resist the country minestrone soup ($8) which was full of vegetables in a steaming broth.

Any chance I have, I make sure mozzarella is on the table.  Fortunately for us, it was the one of the first things listed on the menu. The fresh mozzarella caprese ($15) is to die for, served with a bed of sweet red peppers on the side.  Of course we also had to try a pasta dish, so we shared the Linguette al Pesto, a blend of basil, pine nuts, garlic and parmesan cheese ($21.50). The garlic and pine nuts give the dish a robust, distinct flavor. In fact, every item on the menu looks absolutely amazing.  Our waiter informed us that all of the produce is picked seasonally and locally, much to our satisfaction!

As we devoured the seasonal fruits from the dessert menu, we couldn’t help but become amazed at the freshness and color of the strawberries! It was a rare thing in the middle of winter in New York City to find such deep flavor and ripeness. If I had closed my eyes, I would have been convinced in was the dead of July in the South.

Delicious food and the comforting family will get you every single time at Primola.
