Porto Rico Importing Company is a family run business that has been selling coffees, teas, spices, candies, and accessories since 1907. When you walk through the door you’re hit with the aroma of dozens and dozens of coffee flavors. It smells so amazing in here that you’ll want to stick around for a while just to breathe it all in. And, if you’re looking to buy some for your next morning jolt, the selections make it difficult to choose.
Rustically displayed in large burlap bags are blends from all around the world. Try Brazilian Santos from South America, Organic Costa Rican or Jamaican Blue Mountain from Central America and the Caribbean, French New Guinea Mile High or Hawaiian Kona from Asia and the Pacific, or Ethiopian Yirgacheffe from Africa. Not only does the shop sell coffee, but you can also buy tea, coffee gadgets, accessories, and candy. Try the chocolate covered almonds, hazelnuts, orange peels, or espresso beans.
The shop on Bleecker is the original and is worth the visit, but if you’d rather hang out and try a cup, head over to their Saint Marks Place location. It has a coffee bar. Either way, this coffee is great!
