Cititour Review:

Just as there are many Ray's Pizzas in New York, there are many Patsy's. The best, however, as far as such Italian-American icons as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Francis Ford Coppola are concerned, is the Patsy's in East Harlem, unconnected to the other Patsy's restaurants all over the city.

This Patsy's was founded in 1933 by newlyweds Pasquale 'Patsy' and Carmella Lancieri. Today's owners keep up the same atmosphere that inspired Coppola's dark-hued Godfather (including the cosa nostra staple: a cash-only business) and the classic New York style pizza does not disappoint either: paper-thin crust, tangy, homemade sauce and grated mozzarella. A plain pie (12) is the classic, but toppings such as anchovies, fresh basil, sun-dried tomatoes and portabello mushrooms can be added for three dollars apiece.

To start, split a few appetizers, like baked clams (8.50) or eggplant rollatini (8.95) smothered in tomato sauce. The traditional house salad (7.50) is made entirely of organic ingredients, dressed in the house balsamic vinaigrette.

If you choose to veer away from pizza, you'll find a full menu including classics like chicken piccata (12.95) in a zesty white wine and lemon sauce. Stick to the simple dishes, and you can't go wrong... and be sure to try the tiramisu (5.95); it's rumored to be the best in the city.
