Cititour Review:

You often find some of the best food in the strangest of places.  Afterall, who would have thought gourmet Peruvian food could be found on a cart.  But that is exactly where you will find it at Morocho, a Peruvian fusion cart parked near Union Square West and East 14th Street.

The man behind the food is chef Miguel Samanez who was born just outside of Lima and takes pride in the food he is preparing and it shows.  Having been to Peru myself, I must say the anticuchos are the are among the best I have ever tasted in the city. Skewers of tender veal heart perfectly marinated and topped with a spicy huacatay sauce. It's served on a bed of roasted potatoes and chocolo, a large Peruvian corn.  Even my Peruvian wife gave it high marks, and she is generally tough to please.

Also on the menu, Lomo Saltado, a Peruvian-style stir fry made with strips of rib-eye, red onion, cilantro and garlic in a soy, oyster sauce.   There is Papa A La Huancaina, a vegetarian dish, made with potatoes, Peruvian olives and hard-boiled egg that is topped with Huancaina sauce.  You will also find a creamy pulled chicken dish called Aji de Gallina, along with tacos and quesadillas.   But it is the Peruvian dishes that truly shine.

They say food comes from the heart and at Morocho it truly shows.
