Morgenstern's Finest on the Lower East Side is offering a unique selection of ice creams and toppings. Flavors include Salted Chocolate, Burnt Honey Vanilla,and the Rockiest Road. Specialty flavors range from Green Tea Pistachio and Banana Agave to the MotherKnucker with peanut butter picosos caramel. An informal survey finds a large number of people ordering the Black Coconut Ash which is this jet black ice cream. We went for the Madagascar Vanilla which is excellent, but not quite as daring. Sorbets are also on the menu, including vegan varieties, in flavors like mango, raspberry and cashew malt.
If you are looking for something bigger try one of Morgenstern's Ice Cream Standards. They include the King Kong Banana Split with five scoops, sesame caramel and luxardo. There is also Apple Pie a la mode, Mile High Coconut Cake with black current sorbet, and Avocado Ice Cream Toast. We counted more than 20 different toppings; Luxardo cherries, salted caramel, Aleppo pecans and toasted coconut among them. Service is friendly. Samples are offered. And there is ample seating if you're looking to eat in, or get a scoop or two on the go. Cups and cones come in three separate sizes, as well as a "Monster" cone. A special menu is also available for kids.
