Cititour Review:

Man'ouChe is proving you don't need to spend a lot to eat terrific Middle Eastern food.  The restaurant, located on 5th avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, specializes in Mankeesh, flat oven-baked pies similar to small pizzas.

They are made-to-order family style with a variety of flavorful toppings.  There is zaatar topped with a mixture of dried thyme and sesame seeds that is drizzled with olive oil.  You will also find cheese pies, including one made with feta, tomato, onion and parsley.   My personal favorite is Lahem Baajin; a mix of ground meat, onion, tomato and peppers with just the right amount of Middle Eastern spices. It's cooked up fresh and is perfect for a light meal.

Vegetarians will love this place for its flaky spinach pies, traditional dips like hommous (chickpeas) and babaghanouj (eggplant), and a variety of healthy salads like tabbouleh (parsley, cracked wheat, tomato and lemon) and fattouch (made with toasted pita bread).  There are string beans smothered in stewed tomatoes and garlic and moujadara made with lentils, rice and sauteed onions.

The menu also features a number of grilled sandwiches including shish kebab, schwarma (beef and chicken) and kafta (grilled ground beef and lamb).  There's even a popular french fry sandwich.

We had a delicious dinner for three here, with drinks, for $15.50. Now that is a recession special!
