Turn the corner on Amsterdam and 74th Street and you'll usually find a line of people waiting just around the corner. What they're waiting for is the answer to any cookie lover's dream: Levain Bakery. The sweet scents of freshly made baked goods meets you at the door as you wait in line, only adding to the suspense. Once inside, heaven in the form of 6-ounce cookies awaits.
 
Sure, it's a bakery, and they do make bread, but like their trademark notes, it's all about the cookie here. While the New York Times wrote saluted the chocolate chip cookies as being "possibly the largest and divine chocolate chip cookies in Manhattan," the dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookies are something not to be missed. Dark chocolate cake-y goodness is packed with handfuls of semi-melted peanut butter chips that literally melt in your mouth. Chocolate chocolate chip, chocolate chip walnut and oatmeal raisin all make for smart options too. Can't decide on a flavor? All the more reason to keep coming back.  Since the bakery is usually so busy, it's rare that you won't get a cookie just fresh out of the oven. You can even watch the cookies come out of the oven one delicious batch at a time.  
 
While the original bakery is located on the Upper West Side, they've since opened sister bakeries in Harlem and East Hampton. No matter the location, this sweet spot is definitely worth the trip and the line. No matter the cookie, you're sure to fulfill your sweet tooth fix at Levain.
