Cititour Review:

Jerry's, the popular SoHo spot where women with shopping bags in tow would often rest their tired Manolo blahnik-filled tootsies while noshing on salads, steaks and all-day brunch, has landed in Tribeca.  Jerry's Cafe now occupies a spot on Chambers Street that's bustling by day, but can be quite sleepy at night.

It was cold and rainy when we arrived and the place instantly lifted our spirits.  Bright red booths, curved banquettes with jet black tables, and black-and-white tiled floors give the restaurant a souped up homey feel.  And the food is a notch up your standard diner fair.

We started with a mezze plate ($9) filled with hummus and baba ghanoush, and some new twists like beet tartar and olive tapenade.  There's also refreshing yogurt with bits of cucumber.  All are perfect for dipping with the crispy pita wedges provided.  Other small plates include a grilled shrimp salad ($12) with a chorizo vinagrette, and fried calamari ($8) with chipotle aioli.

Jerry's is big on salads.  You'll find everything from cobb and tuna to mango chicken and mixed greens.  We tried the Chicken Caesar ($12) with hearts of romaine, croutons and slices of parmesan.  The salad was fresh although it deserved a bit more dressing.   And we'd skip the chicken.  The thin slices were rather dry and lifeless.  The grilled hanger steak ($17) on the other hand was tender and juicy, and prepared perfectly rare as ordered.  The healthy supply of "Jerry's" crispy shoestring fries accompanying it were equally as good.  The menu also boasts a turkey pastrami reuben ($11) which sold out during out visit, a traditional BLT ($9), and a 10 oz burger ($9) that you could ratchet up a notch with an order of Jerry's truffle fries.  Desserts include a molten chocolate cake, creme brulee and cobbler.

Jerry's may have moved, but it still feels the same. That upwardly mobile vibe that makes you feel like you're part of the scene even on a dreary, rainy New York City day.
