Cititour Review:

A friend of mine who grew up in Chinatown turned me on to Hop Lee. The restaurant itself is split into two dining areas. Upstairs is where you'll find the formal dining area filled mostly with Americans, while downstairs is for the locals. We headed downstairs, a simple setting with oversized tables and within earshot of the rattle of pots and pans from the busy kitchen. The owner is half Cuban and you'll find that reflected in some of the dishes, like the salt encrusted jumbo shrimps or calamari cooked with fiery jalapeno peppers. Then there are the more traditional Chinatown dishes like the bite-sized spare ribs cooked in a deliciously rich black bean sauce, and the freshly roasted duck served on a bed of rice. Hop Lee also gets high marks for its service which harkens back to a time when waiters wore bow ties and silken vests. They still do.
