Cititour Review:

What's better than hot Turkish pita bread straight from the oven?   Dipping it into equally fresh hummus and babaganoush.  Haza Turkish Kebab in Bay Ridge has it all, including chicken and beef kebabs (for some reason they don't offer lamb) along with schwarma served by the plate or in sandwiches stuffed with fresh veggies, including lots or red cabbage.

While the sandwiches make for a filling, inexpensive meal, don't pass up on some of the larger entrees.  Dishes like branzino which arrived with a tasty herb marinade and crisped up skin straight off the grill.  The fish was extremely fresh and cooked perfectly with the moist meat falling off the bone.  It's served with a huge salad and flavorful rice mixed with chick peas.  Another dazzling plate is the shrimp kebabs brightened by the redness of paprika and charred around the edges.  A wedge of lime separates each shrimp which offers a nice spash of citrus as they are pulled from the skewer.

Other fish dishes included grilled salmon and red tilapia.  You will also find Sucuk Pide, a thick dough stuffed with mozzarella and sausage.  It also comes with egg and grilled lamb with onion and green pepper.   Vegetarians also have numerous options from grape leaves stuffed with rice and pine nuts, falafel and a red lentil soup. Or try some Cacik, a simple dish made with yogurt, cucumber and garlic.

Desserts include a Turkish rice pudding, which is wonderful with its slightly charred crust, pistachio baklava and kunefe, a shredded wheet dessert stuffed with cheese soaked in syup and baked in the oven.

Hazar Turkish Kebab tends to fill up quickly, especially during peak hours, and service at times is spotty.  But if you are looking for a traditional Turkish meal, this is the place to be.
