It's not often that a butcher shop can set off buzz. But the arrival of Fleisher's in Park Slope has done just that. The shop sells only grassfed and organically-raised meats, free of antibiotics and hormones. In other words, they care about the animals that the meat is coming from, and what we are putting into our bodies. In fact, they consider themselves partners with farmers. And long before the shop arrived, well-known restaurants like Gramercy Tavern and Casa Mono took notice. Now, you can put the same fresh meats on your table. There are slabs of bacon for slicing and fresh made sausages ranging from pork maple for breakfast to Rockin' Morrocan made with chicken and lamb. It's also a great spot to pick up a pork shoulder, fresh ham steaks or a nice dry-aged ribeye or porterhouse steak. You will also find whole chickens cooking on the rotisserie. Yes, you might pay a bit more, but for the quality and care it really is a small price to pay. - Thomas Rafael
