There's a little place in Sunset Park where you can find some of the best pernil (roasted pork) in the city. It's called El Nuevo Yayo. The meat is perfectly seasoned and so tender that it breaks apart easily with a fork, while the skin remains crisp and crunchy. Other notable items on the menu include; fresh pulpo (octopus) salad, Chicharrones de Pollo (fried chicken rinds), and Rabido Guisado, a delicious oxtail stew served on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The crowd is mostly Spanish, something I know firsthand being one of the few gringos to set foot in the place. But the owner is a great guy who speaks fluent English. Some of the waitresses though could use a lesson or two. Most of the dishes are under $10 with the exceptions of certain seafood dishes, and usually come with rice and beans.Comments:
