Sometimes you find the best food in the oddest of places. Eight Avenue Trading in Sunset Park, Brooklyn is one of the them. The Chinese grocer keeps a small food station near the front entrance that is perfect for a cheap meal. We were surprised by the delicate nature of the fried dumplings filled with fresh herbs and mashed pumpkin. They were delicious and you can't beat the price at five for a buck. And then there was the container of lo mein-style noodles mixed with slices of tender pork, sauteed onions and scallions. It was overflowing and could have easily fed two for a $1.25. They also offer a nice assortment of dim sum and noodle dishes at astonishingly low prices. Who says there are no deals left in New York. Being fluent in Chinese will definitely help here, since the friendly server, an older gentleman, didn't speak a stitch of English. But don't let that stop you. - Thomas Rafael
