In the heart of the Fashion District you will find Desmond's, a swanky new steakhouse. I stopped in for a quick looksee and left quite impressed, from its cocoa-colored, curvy banquettes to its sprawling white bar which is about the size of a football field (Alright, I'm exaggerating, but you get the picture.) to the lovely hostess who gave me a guided tour knowing that I had no intention of eating there this evening. That's pretty classy, and by the looks of things, so is Desmond's which has ample space for private parties while catering to a lunch and dinner crowd. Starters include grilled slab bacon with black pepper applesauce ($15), and tuna tartare with avocado, apple and pine nuts ($18). There is a raw bar to fill up on clams, oysters, jumbo shrimps and lobster. Steaks include a New York sirloin, T-Bone and ribeye in the $48-$50 range. Other signature dishes include rack of lamb, a grilled veal chop and yellowfin tuna. Sides are exactly what you'd expect to find at a steakhouse; beer-battered onion rings, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Located on the second floor of a non-descript building, Desmond's is a hidden gem. - Thomas Rafael
