Cititour Review:

The Circus is back in town. No, we're not talking about Ringling Brothers. The Circus restaurant has reopened at a new location not far from the original. Start with a drink at the bar. The friendly Brazilian bartender will be more than happy to make you some Caipirinhas. The drinks are made with Cachaça, a sugar-cane liquor, and loaded with lime slices that you squash with your stirrer to get the full impact. These babies pack quite a punch. The $8 tab will keep you from drinking too many, although you may be tempted to bust the budget. The restaurant, located directly across from David Burke & Donatella, is warm and inviting. The space is a bit larger than the original with extra seating in the rear. The walls are still adorned with circus clowns and the steak is better than ever. We started with an appetizer of perfectly prepared scallops, but our fish cake was a little dry and overly spiced. You'll also find empanadas and coconut shrimp among the starters. The real treat was the Sirloin steak ($29). It arrived crispy and charred on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. The steak slices were served atop a bed of fresh spinach and topped with homemade onion rings. A real treat. You'll also find medallions of pan seared Sirloin served in a Madeira wine sauce ($21), and Feijoda, Brazil's national dish. It's actually a black bean stew made with lean cuts of pork, beef and sausage. It's served only on Saturday and Sunday. Desserts include a Brazilian style flan and a chocolate soufle with vanilla ice cream. So, if you can't make it to Rio for Mardi Gras, Circus might be the next best thing.
