A modern steakhouse located in a former bank vault underneath The New Yorker Hotel. It sounds like something out of a mystery novel. But this "steakeasy" as it is being called is Executive Chef Scott Campbell's tribute to everything beef and a lot more. Campbell, formerly of Le Cirque and Union Square Cafe, is serving up a Kan-Kan Pork Chop, a huge arch of loin with pork belly and crackling with caramelized Catskill apples and apple cider reduction. There's a Tomahawk Ribsteak and a Cowboy Bone-In Ribeye topped with oysters and a brown butter béarnaise sauce.  Diners will also find specialties like Five Spice Duck Steak and cold smoked Norwegian Salmon with horseradish crème fraiche. Speakeasy style cocktails and signature drinks, like the Corpse Reviver, by mixologist Allen Katz are also available along with an extensive wine list. The art deco decor is also a throwback to the 1930s when the New Yorker was the city's largest hotel. This is the first time the bank vault, with orginal safe deposit boxes left intact, has been opened to the public in 37 years. Cocktails are served until 2 am. Concept and design by Baum+Whiteman International (Rainbow Room & Windows on the World) and architect Richard Bloch (Masa & Shuko). To see more click here
