Cititour Review:

It's called Burger  & Lobster for a very good reason: the menu lists exactly three things,  the lobster roll, a beef burger or a whole lobster steamed or steamed and then finished on the  grill  Each offering  comes with very good, if a little oversalted fries, and a small metal pot of mixed green salad.  Everything costs a very reasonable $20.

The place is part of a UK chain with branches in London, Cardiff, Bristol and a few other British cities and also operates restaurants in Kuwait and Stockholm . The concept is terrific--highly efficient, good food and theoretically little waste as only a few supplies are required leading to little, if any, spoilage.  The New York City eatery holds 350 eaters and can be very noisy in full throttle which is peek lunch and dinner times, because there are absolutely no soft surfaces to muffle sound. It's also on the bedlam side at cocktail time when people who work in the Union Square/Flatiron area leave their offices and drop in for a beer or two and an early dinner.

Tables are bare bones naked with silverware and paper napkins dropped off s you sit on dark red vinyl banquettes while water is poured. A Burger & Lobster wet nap is  provided . Other than selecting your main, your other decision is what will you drink?  There is a good-sized selection of beers and wines including sangria. There is also a full bar so if someone wants a Martini (or a more exotic cocktail) they can be accommodated. If you opt for the generously sized burger, you are faced with one more choice: with or without cheese and/or bacon?  The  six-ounce lobster roll is excellent featuring a classic split roll, toasted on both sides as it should be, stuffed with large chunks of fresh lobster lightly mixed with mayonnaise. The side salad is topped with a few rounds of sliced, red onion and a dusting of what may be Parmesan cheese in a pleasant, if undistinguished, dressing.

Desserts, all priced at $6, include various flavors of sorbet, gelato , strawberry cheese cake and the like. Beef comes from Nebraska while  lobsters start off in the waters of Nova Scotia and live in New York in specially built, very big tanks until their number comes up.

Service is pleasant and polite, largely provided by young women who seem genuinely interested in how you like what you're eating. Food comes to the table quite fast after you've ordered

The lobster wins raves-where else do you get a perfectly prepared one and one-half pound lobster with clarified or garlic butter sauce at this price?  Overall, the place is a bargain, lots of fun and delivers exactly what it says it will--something of a rarity.

If you're with a party of ten or more you can make a reservation; otherwise,  it's strictly walk in. If you're interested in a private party Burger & Lobster will work out details. All major credit cards are accepted; the place is open seven days a week from 12 noon until "the party ends…"
