A tiny gem of a restaurant has appeared on Third Avenue in Bay Ridge. The Brooklyn Beet Company has that polished look you would expect to find at a Manhattan hot spot. And it's already turning heads with its full bar up front, perfect for a martini, and its lovely decor designed to match its comfort fare. A quick look at the menu finds a Spring Beet Salad made with oven roasted beets, baby carrots, celery shoots and belle radishes with goat cheese and candied walnuts in an herb vinaigrette ($11). There are turnip-squash dumplings with mushroom and aged Asiago ($9) along with buttermilk-crusted Czech brie with roasted beets and a house tartar sauce ($8). House-made pickled vegetables add to the locavore feel, while a dish called Halusky, made with hand-cut potato noodles with crispy bacon bits and fresh chives, had us wanting to order it on the spot ($7). Larger plates feature a grass-fed brisket goulash with caramelized onions and roasted peppers ($15). Fish and Chips come by way of Maine with ale-battered fresh Atlantic cod with red bliss chips ($17). Slow-roasted leg of lamb is served with butter-crisped potatoes and caramelized heirloom carrots ($19), while baked New York State rainbow trout gets a red currant-bourbon reduction ($21). Vegetarians might want to try the apple raisin potato latkes ($16) with a mushroom toss and cream fraiche (It's also available with a spicy heritage pork paprika ragu). Hudson valley Duck Spatzle is accompanied by rustic arugula noodles, baby asparagus and Gruyere (17). You will also find whole wheat pirogi with a spicy pulled pork core, bacon-braised baby spinach and dill creme fraiche ($16) The house cocktail is the Bklyn Beet 'Tini made with beet-infused Ciroc Vodka, house-made ginger syrup, fresh lime juice with a lemon twist. The restaurant is also offering a number of different craft beers. Brooklyn Beet Company's innovated menu and lovely setting makes this a must-try Brooklyn spot. -Thomas Rafael
